The report should include main changes or campaigns such as when Tim's started to sell lunch foods to capture lunch goers, breakfast foods, and soon to be dinner foods. Remember, you can increase market share by increasing the whole size of the market, or stealing it from your competitors. How has Tim's done this.

Customer/Consumer Research Project!

Congratulations, after receiving an outstanding recommendation from Mr. Southwell, Hurtsville Marketing Inc. has hired you as the new Department Head of the Market Research Division.

Hurtsville Marketing Inc is looking at introducing some new products into the Newton area of Surrey, specifically at Frank Hurt Secondary.

Your Task: It is your job to come up with either a new or existing product or service that the students ages 13-18 would be interested in.  You must then make a list of at least five survey questions, multiple choice or yes no type questions are best.  You must then ask at least 30 people the questions and record them in chart form.  It is best if you ask a variety of different students, from different grades, classes, of different genders etc.  (half of them may be from your department {class} but the rest must be from different classes.)  Once we have your info, the whole department will look at your results to decide whether or not they agree with your findings.

Corporate Resources: There are 4 different sample charts located on the Frank Hurt Shared Drive: Go into the Frank Hurt Shared Drive, Classes, Mr.Southwell, Consumer Customer Sample Charts.   (Always, sometimes, never #1 is my suggested format but you’re the Boss!)

Once you have completed your survey, you are to present your findings using at least one GRAPH (Pie, Bar, Line etc.).  You will present your findings on a small poster to be displayed to the rest of the employees in the boardroom (classroom).  Include in your poster a clear and concise summary of what you have found out from your survey.  Your findings will be discussed at a group meeting with all staff.

NOTE:  If you wish, you may choose to center your survey on a product that you think will sell well in our store.  You can then use this survey as a foundation to build future projects on.  (5 marketing points)

Good-Luck, you come highly recommended.  Now, let’s see what you can do!!

Welcome to Marketing!

For most classes, we will be doing a lesson as a class and then you will find further instructions here.  Remember that there are 2 classes so Marketing 11's do the work for them and Marketing 12 do the work for them.  Today you will receive your course outlines and go over course expectations. Including expectations for the school store

Marketing  11

Marketing is all about making an impact and getting people to remember. For todays class, you are to write about 3 to 5 advertisements or sales pitches where someone was successful in making an impact on you.  It may have been a positive impact or negative.  If it was an advertisement, please include the ad.  If not, please describe it.  Describe in detail how it made an impact on you.  In the end, try to explain in ONE word, how the ad (sales pitch etc) was able to impact you.

So, 3-5 ads that impacted you
Descriptions of the ads or the ads themselves
Descriptions of how they impacted you
One word that describes how it impacted you

When you are done, please email it to me with the title First Assignment and YOUR Name in the title.
eg. "First Assignment, John"

This year, we are taking over the management of the school store.  It will be your team that will get the chance to rebrand the store and be in charge of the day to day marketing, merchandising and the long term image of the business.

Today's Assignment.

Hopefully you haven't forgot everything you learned in marketing in the past.  It is time to refresh your memory.  You are to go on-line and find Four  advertisements.  They may be ones that we watched in Marketing 11 and that you remember.   Once you have your ad (please either copy the link), determine the target market (be specific).  what strategies are used in the ad, and what are some strengths and weaknesses of the ad.   When you finish, please e-mail your work to me.  We may use them in upcoming classes.  Please always put your name in the subject line.  eg.  "John, ad review".

***Remember to check the website if you are ever late or away.****
